The New Current is a Rotterdam-based platform and public art event dedicated to artists at the start of their careers. Each year during Rotterdam Art Week, The New Current presents an ambitious exhibition that brings together emerging artists from across the Netherlands and invites a wide audience to engage with their work.

More than an exhibition, The New Current offers an immersive experience where visitors can encounter large-scale installations, video works, performances, and cross-disciplinary projects. Experimentation and innovation are central - from the artworks themselves to the way they are presented, the atmosphere of the space, and the live performance program that connects different artistic disciplines and communities.

Through this combination of exhibition and experience, The New Current not only increases the visibility and position of emerging artists but also opens up the art world to new audiences.

To further support artistic growth, a development program precedes the event, offering guidance to artists in their transition from the academy to the professional field. This programme extends beyond the exhibiting artists and is accessible to all emerging makers eager to learn and connect.

The New Current is made possible by the people behind the scenes. For the upcoming edition, we are looking for volunteers who would like to be part of the exhibition and help us welcome visitors.

As a volunteer at The New Current, you are one of the first points of contact for our audience. You welcome visitors, help with ticketing, and offer practical information about the exhibition and programme. You play an essential role in shaping the atmosphere and experience of the exhibition.

The New Current takes place as part of Rotterdam Art Week, from 25 to 29 March, at Piekstraat 2, Rotterdam, alongside a city-wide programme across more than 60 locations.
