Sojung Lee is an interdisciplinary artist who explores temporary and arbitrary events in a digital experience. She seeks enigmatic indications which can be identified when something is out of place, or being replaced. She considers these indications as a placeholder that connotes temporary, arbitrary, and unsettled codes in digital interaction.
They integrate superficially into a system causing confusion and discomfort. In Sojung’s practice, placeholding elements come under scrutiny with text, images, videos, sound, and body movements. She especially enjoys working with time-based media whose temporality is inherited from the idea of a placeholder. Through speculative storytelling, she reveals how variable images and text mediate our body and mind. They give us short-term information, affecting our further thoughts and behaviour.
