No Exit

No Exit immerses us in the Dutch landscape, serving as a canvas for the artist’s exploration of how our past shapes our present. Unveiling the lingering presence of memories, Leonardo delves into the haunting effect on our lives. The characteristic of the work is the mutation and development of the memories in which reality and fiction enmesh. Through the recreation and activation of self-portraits, he embarks on a process of self-discovery, unravelling layers of identity and bringing to light hidden aspects of the self. It is an attempt to take control over traumatic childhood experiences employing a working method that can render the truth elusive and reconstruct its meaning.

The work by Leonardo Reuvekamp is constructed from his memories and recognizable through computer-generated videos in which everyday realities and behaviours take shape between the past and the present. In the hyperrealistic manifestation, the images are identifiable, but they conceal small facets of society. A central theme that connects his practice is human consciousness exposed to an external world. Within his practice he investigates the traces of contemporary issues related to hyper-individualism, loneliness, traumas, dreams, desires, and greed. It explores what it means to be a modern human, within the framework of painting and philosophical questions that aim to contemplate existence and interweave with each other.
