Monika Szewczyk

Poetics of Ambiguity investigates the blurred line between material and immaterial, with metal being used as substance as well as a surface for transformation. Activated by light and projection, the installation becomes a spatial choreography of reflections, shadows, and shifting movement. Drawing on a year-long study into the poetics of the underground it translates their sensual and tactile qualities into sculptural form. Through burning, bending, and layering, the metal gains an organic resonance, moving between opacity and luminosity, rigidity and flow.

The installation invites you into an embodied encounter with matter, where orientation dissolves and the senses recalibrate. For a moment, you can let loose, and become more attuned to the living materiality that surrounds you.

About the artist
Monika Szewczyk’s practice explores the space between industrial and organic matter, nature and technology, often using discarded materials that carry traces of systemic violence and exploitation. Her work reflects on humanity’s detachment from social, political, and ecological systems, raising questions of intimacy, ethics, and connection. Through sensorial, immersive experiences, she seeks to unsettle habitual perceptions, foster empathy, and encourage reflection on our relationship with the living world and our place within it.
