An Amalgam Loop is an evolving installation where vinegar and limestone enact a chemical performance that translates ionic mutations into a matter-directed soundscape. Moving between biology and geology, it reveals the liveliness of seemingly still materials. Powered by the reaction between stone and acid, the work behaves like a non-living organism, using sensors and procedural music to translate chemical variations into a never-ending soundscape. By giving agency to dead matter, the installation invites empathy toward the non-living and challenges what is considered active, or instead, inert.
About the artist
Beyond its connection to science and technology, Alessio Pinton’s practice is grounded in empathy as a design method. In his work, he incorporates the concept of empathy to extend our sense of identity beyond our own nervous systems, strengthening our connection with the environment. Through hybrid digital narratives, he explores how tools like procedural music, sensors, and real-time data can serve as mediators, and translate non-human signals into human experience.
